I am one month at home , Richard finisched trip trough New Zealand!!!:-)

Hello Artur!

Of course I remember you. We met several times between Arthur (Halagan's)
Pass and Wanaka. I too am now back in Europe and wish I was still pedalling
around NZ. Thanks you for the interesting and very good pictures you sent; I
can see you are a professional! I will send you some of mine.

I think the last time I wrote to you, I was in Christchurch, waiting for my
flight to Wellington (me & bike only $60!). I only stayed one night in
Wellington as it was very full (cricket test match against England and a
festival) and took the bus up to Wanganui, a pleasant little town on the
river. I cycled the little road up the River Wanganui to Pipiriki, which was
only gravel in parts. I shared my carrots with a tame little bambi deer and
met a German doctor of Biogenetics, who was doing research in Edinburgh. We
stayed one night at the convent of the Sisters of Compassion in Jerusalem.
Then the uphill gravel road to Raehiti was very hard work in the heat.

From National Park I took a day off cycling and did the Tongariro Crossing -
very interesting and worth doing. Then up to Taupo, Rotorua and finally to
friends I hadn't seen for 15 years in Tauranga. I stayed 4 days with them
over Easter. I finally did the Coromandel Peninsula, which was very hilly
but picturesque. One of the best places I found was the Youth Hostel at
Opoutere (half way up east coast of the Coromandel). It was lovely and
peaceful and I went kayaking again in the estuary. I got up as far as
Colville, then around the Firth of Thames to the bird sanctuary in Miranda,
where a group of energetic pensioner hikers took me under their wing and fed
me - they were a lot of fun. I found an interesting BBH in Tuakau-Pukekawa,
with plenty of cats and dogs and an excellent evening meal with wine/beer
for $15. I did a day's woofing on the farm before heading off to my angora
goat friends near Waiuku. Then it was time to fly home - all good things
come to an end sometime!

You did well to manage 2000km. I only did 2800km, as I spent about 2 weeks
at friends in Auckland, Christchurch and Tauranga.

When we last met in Wanaka, I remembered I had a gel cover for my saddle,
which I didn't need anymore. I cycled after you to give it to you, on the
way I thought you would go, but didn't find you. I hope you managed OK on
the saddle you found up on Arthur's Pass.

I enjoyed looking at your pictures and have looked at your blog, although I
couldn't understand what you had written. I found a Polish_English
translation site under www.poltran.com/pl.php4. You may find it useful,
although your English is already very good. Could you please send me
pictures IMG_6044 and 6045 in the original size, so I can use them in my
slide show? I am attaching the picture I took of you, also in original size.
I will send other NZ pictures in reduced size with another e-mail, as I
don't know if there are mail size limits.

What kind of camera do you use? I have a Canon Power Shot S50, which is now
4 years old and so no longer up to date. I am thinking about buying another
one soon. What do you advise? I have always had Canon cameras, but know
Nikon is good too. I have read good reports about the Canon G9, but the
price of SLRs are not so much more. I used to have a Canon A1 camera with
zoom lenses. What do you think? Are such questions too difficult to answer
in English?

Your wife and children will have been pleased to have back. Do you plan
anymore cycle tours? If you are down in the south of Germany, let me know.

Our twin town in Poland is Ciasna (west of Czestochowa). My wife and I were
there and in Krakow about 3 years ago. Where do you come from, was it
Katowice?

Best wishes from

Richard
